County Board chair reflects on past year

Remodeling courthouse facilities and moving departments around within those spaces, improving ways to get information on land transactions, a new 4-H coordinator and more were what Mille Lacs County Board Chair Phil Peterson listed as accomplishments during 2011.

Peterson was at home during the interview December 22, sitting within view of the large row of big, blue Harvestore silos at the dairy farm in rural Milaca that he owns and operates with two brothers.

He noted how the structure that was formerly called the courthouse annex and is now called the community services (public health and social services) and veterans services building was remodeled to accommodate those departments. Remodeling has also been happening in the nearby old historic courthouse as it is now called.

“I know folks are troubled by all the building going on (in the county’s government buildings),” Peterson said. “But it had to be done and the long-term debt does not affect the general fund in a negative way.”
