Man runs over foot with truck, felony charges filed

A 21-year-old Princeton man is facing multiple felony charges after running over a man on Princeton’s 3rd Street N.

Gregory Daniels, 912 West Branch St., was arrested following the Dec. 26 incident and has been charged in Mille Lacs County District Court with second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, fifth degree assault, failing to stop at the scene of an injury accident and reckless driving. If found guilty on all counts, Daniels could serve more than 10 years in prison and pay as much as $21,000 in fines.

According to a criminal complaint: Princeton police officers were called to the 1100 block of 3rd Street N. shortly after 4 p.m. on a driving complaint.

Officers talked to the victim at the scene who said he was outside playing football with his children when a young man in a GMC Sierra drove by and accelerated around a corner. The driver dropped off a passenger at a nearby residence and then came back around the corner.

The victim told officers he went out into the street to tell the driver to slow down. He grabbed the driver’s side door.

Daniels then stopped his truck, put it in reverse and struck the victim, knocking him to the ground, the complaint states. Once on the ground, Daniels allegedly backed over the victim’s foot, causing injury to his toe, according to the complaint. Witnesses collaborated the witness’ account.

Daniels then allegedly left the scene.

Witnesses saw a truck pull into a residence on 12th Avenue N. Officers went to the residence. Daniels answered the door, the report states.

Daniels told officers he panicked when confronted by the victim. He was scared and just wanted to leave the area. He was arrested and booked into the county jail. During a bond hearing, the following day, bail was set at $10,000. An omnibus hearing has been set for January 20, 2012.

Court records show that Daniels has no prior criminal history.
