There’s no dollar figure on how much will be saved but the Milaca School Board made moves last week to limit the hours that the district school building can be used.
Tabled at the December meeting, three policies were passed at the Jan. 17 meeting that limit the building’s hours.
The first approves closing the school building at 3:30 p.m. during the summer with the exception of marching band practice and preparation, scheduled Community Ed activities, Kids Town and varsity/junior varsity practice for high school league activities.
The effective date is June 11, 2012.
Board member Todd Quaintance talked at length about “not hurting kids” before the vote was taken.
Community Ed director Damian Patnode said that if done right the new directive “could be a benefit to all kids.”
Patnode referred to an activity being run through Community Ed rather than as a outside-of-the-district activity that would have to pay a surcharge for renting a facility.
And, all kids would be eligible for an activity, rather than having participation limited if run by an outside group.
That resolution passed.
