Obituary: John Rust

John Rust, 74 , of Princeton, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on the eve of March 28, 2012.

John was born on January 18, 1938 to Henry and Marie Rust. He married Phyl DeJong on September 5, 1958.  They lived an active life and raised two children.  Throughout their lives they lived in Minnesota and Arkansas.  John built multiple homes through the years and each was unique in its own way.

During his entrepreneurial years he was involved in multiple businesses . . . sign painter, carpenter, snowmobile dealership, manufacturer of custom built campers, RV’s and motorhomes.  He also dabbled in the construction of commercial buildings.  But his true passion was the collecting of old cars, pedal cars, porcelain signs and much gas station and coca cola memorabilia.  Our dad loved to buy a variety of old things and refurbish and recreate into unique and memorable items for himself  and others to enjoy.

Our parents were married for 50 years and they especially enjoyed camping and traveling across the country.  Dad made new friends wherever he went.  His ability to strike up conversation with anyone made a lasting impression on many in the community.  He had a contagious smile and beautiful blue eyes to accompany it.

In addition to his many friends, our dad had two best friends that deserve special recognition; his son, Doug, with whom he loved to travel.  Their most recent excursion was a trip to Vegas and Arizona where much fun was had. And his son-in-law, Bill, who was a constant companion to many swap meets and car shows.  Many fond memories were made.

He was greatly loved and will be missed by his daughter, Leslie (who mothered him until the very end) and husband Bill Humphrey; granddaughters Ashley and Whitney; son, Doug Rust and wife Geri Ann; granddaughters Sara and Brooklyn; sister, Marianne Papenhausen and special friend Mona Mueller and last . . . but not least, his dog Jackson.

John was preceded in death by his parents:  Henry and Marie; wife: Phyllis and granddaughter:  Jordain  Rust.

John loved sayings and one that best suits him is “Be yourself . . . Everyone else is taken”.  We love you Dad.

Your wonderful kids, Doug and Leslie
