Tennis: Streak reaches four games

Princeton’s Jack Finck hits the ball during Princeton’s game against Mora on Tuesday, April 17.

The Princeton boys tennis team is enjoying a four-game winning streak after wins last week at Mora and St. Cloud Cathedral. That comes after dropping the first three meets of the season at Pine City, Aitkin and Foley.

The boys had matches against Big Lake, Chaska and St. Francis rained out on Saturday. The Tigers were tied 3-3 with St. Francis when the meet was called. The two teams are expected to finish the match at a later date, coach Jon Steinbrecher said.

At home April 17 against Mora, the Tigers picked up a 7-0 win over the Mustangs. The boys completely dominated Mora in all aspects of the game.

The Mayerchak brothers, Isaiah and Thomas, failed to give up a point to their Mustang counterparts. Jordan Rosevold gave up just one point and Josh Norman gave up three points in singles play.

Isaiah Mayerchak defeated Derrick Taylor 6-0, 6-0, while younger brother Thomas matched the score by defeating Mora’s Dylan Ammerman 6-0, 6-0.

Rosevold took down Chris Coleman by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and Norman defeated Zeke Enyart 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action it was the team of Noah Bauer and Jack Finck earning a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Keenan Hansen and Jason Friend won 6-1, 6-3 and Sam Heggam and Tyler Leverty earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

At St. Cloud Cathedral, the boys picked up a 4-3 win by winning all the singles matches at Gold’s Gym in Sartell. The boys fell in each of the three doubles competitions.
