Athlete of the Week: Sam Hunn

Sam Hunn has being playing ball as long as she can remember.

It all started with a simple game of catch in the backyard with her Dad John and brothers.

She started playing on a school team in seventh grade and has been playing organized ball every season since then.

A two-year member of Princeton’s varsity team, Sam is a right fielder this year on the Mandee Allen-coached Princeton High School softball team.

She holds the role of the Tigers’ power-hitter.

“I like batting,” Hunn said. “I think my dad taught me how to hit pretty well.”

“I’ve never been scared to hit,” Hunn said.

Her hitting prowess was on display last week when she hit three home runs over the course of two games. Two of those homers were over-the-fence home runs.

The first two came in a 9-8 loss to Little Falls.

“It was pretty cool,” said Hunn, who says her only previous home run came prior to playing varsity ball.

Her second home run came in a 12-2 loss to Milaca.

Sam is hitting .259 through Monday’s game against Foley and has a .375 on-base percentage. She has scored six runs and has tallied five RBIs. She has seven hits so far on the season.
