Jacob Gondeck

Jacob “Kuba” Gondeck, age 87, died peacefully on April 30 at his home in Wayzata. He was surrounded by all seven of his children, his wife, and several grandchildren.

Jake was born on May 24, 1924 in Gilman Township to Jacob and Frances (Gruba) Gondeck. He was a US Navy WW II veteran, serving as an air evacuation flight corpsman in the South Pacific.

He and Ann Wisniewski were married on June 14, 1951. Most of his career was spent managing Gamble stores; moving his family to Oregon, Illinois, Iowa, and finally settling down in Princeton. In 2007, he and Ann moved to Wayzata to be closer to their children.

Jake loved to play baseball and was known for his skill as a pitcher. He also loved to fish, and go camping with his family.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Val Gondeck, Helen Bettendorf, and Sophie Svihel. He is survived by his wife: Ann; his seven children: Jane (Cal), Maryrose, Kate (Pam), Chris (Norah), Susan, Liz (Rob), David (Debra); and thirteen grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 3 at St. Bartholomew Church in Wayzata. Burial was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
