Milaca was seeded No. 2 and will face No. 7-seeded Paynesville in the quarterfinals of the Sub-Section 18AA Softball Tournament Friday (May 18) at Sod Park in Milaca at 4:30 p.m.
In other first-round games Friday, No. 1-seeded Albany will host No. 8-seeded Foley, No. 4-seeded Holdingford will host No. 5-seeded St. Cloud Cathedral and No. 3-seeded Little Falls will host No. 6-seeded Pierz. The seeding meeting took place Wednesday night.
Milaca is 10-5 while Paynesville is 8-8.
“Paynesville is a young team that has been up and down this season,” said Milaca Coach Randy Johnson. “It has surprised some good teams.
“We’re happy to get the No. 2 seed and home field for the start of sub-section play.”
The semifinals in the tournament are Monday, May 21, at 4:30, with the highest-seeded teams remaining after the quarterfinals hosting those games.
The winner of the Milaca-Paynesville game will face the winner of the Little Falls-Pierz game while the winner of the Albany-Foley game will host the winner of the Holdingford-Cathedral game.
Milaca defeated Little Falls twice this season but lost to Pierz.
