Board OKs $38,747 to deal with drainage issue at courthouse lower level flooring
Pete Filippi from Contegrity Group, the construction management company for the courthouse remodeling project, gave commissioners information on a water seepage issue that would affect the proposed lower level flooring at the courthouse. After an inspection by Braun Intertec Corp., it was recommended that a moisture vapor suppression system be installed. A plastic sealant will be installed. A motion was passed to approve the $38,747 expenditure for the system. Filippi also reviewed the courthouse remodeling budget and told board members the project, scheduled for completion in June, will be completed under the budget amount of $959,349. He noted that about $137,000 remained in the contingency budget and about $118,000 remains in the general conditions budget. There was $190,241 budgeted for contingencies and $295,596 budgeted for general conditions.
Docking stations for squad car computers to be paid for with DWI forfeiture funds
Sheriff Brent Lindgren requested that commissioners approve an expenditure of $14,385 for docking stations for computers in county squad cars and they did. There will be 20 such stations purchased. The money will come from the sheriff’s DWI forfeiture fund that contains about $40,000.
Bids approved for two culvert projects
Two bids totaling about $233,000 were approved for culvert installation projects. The first went to Landwehr Construction, St. Cloud, for culverts on CSAH 11. That bid was for $158,313 and was one of seven bids that ranged up to $183,107. The engineer’s estimate was $110,266. The winning bidder for a culvert project on CSAH 25 was Hjort Excavating, Milaca, with a bid of $74,490. There were six bids that ranged up to $99,950. The engineer’s estimate was $48,897. Both projects are scheduled to begin June 4 and end Aug. 17.

County engineer Bruce Cochran, in his monthly report to commissioners, said that because of the mild winter, only 17 percent of the budgeted amount for fuel has been expended in the first third of the year. The budget for gasoline is $51,000 and only $10,720 had been used by the end of April, while $35,659 of the diesel fuel budget of $225,000 had been used. Cochran also reported on many projects in the county, including the $1.7 million project in Milaca on Central Avenue that began this month and is scheduled to end Aug. 31.
Tom Lopez, an assistant county attorney for nine years in Mille Lacs County, resigned effective May 11. Jenny Wunderlich, victim assistance coordinator who has been employed by the county for seven years, resigned effective May 11. Replacements for both are being sought.
