Princeton Speedway: June 8 results

Sunny skies and temps in the high 80’s brought many fans out to the Princeton Speedway for a night of WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Series action. The night was sponsored by United Surface Prep and Crystal Cabinets and they donated bikes that were given away to some lucky kids.


Rick Nelson took the early lead as the WISSOTA Street Stocks began their feature event. Jon Gunderson and Kurt Becken moved into the second and third points with Dave Read close behind. The yellow flew and after a couple of cautions the race was underway with Becken in first. Read and Ryan Kostreba battled for second with Read getting the point. Read then slid next to Becken for first and took the point while Becken and Kostreba battled for second. Behn Mensen moved in to battle with Becken and Kostreba for second while Read stretched out a lead. Becken was able to take second with Kostreba keeping close. Kostreba went to the side of Becken and they fought for second again. This round, Kostreba took the point and Becken moved into third.  Kevin Schmidt was running in the top five all night and he moved next to Becken as the yellow flew. During the caution, Becken moved into the infield with some tin issues and was unable to complete the race. The restart was Read with Kostreba and Schmidt behind him. Kostreba moved quickly into second followed by Schmidt and Mensen. They drove in that order until the checkered flew and Read took the feature win.


The Coors Light WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled onto the track for their next feature with Kyle Matuska and George Sniezek heading the pack. Matuska took the lead as the green flew with Sniezek battling Denis Czech for second. Czech took second and moved in on Matuska for first as Jeremy Nelson took third. Czech and Nelson moved to the sides of Matuska and went three wide for first. Czech came out in front with Nelson and Matuska behind him. The yellow flag flew slowing down the drivers. After a couple of restarts, Czech continued to lead with Nelson and Shane Sabraski behind him. Sabraski took second and moved in on Czech for first while Nelson took third with Ryan Bowers and Bud Martini behind him. Sabraski moved next to Czech for first and Jason VandeKamp moved next to Nelson for third. Sabraski was able to take the lead with Czech, Nelson, VandeKamp and Martini in tow. The leaders began lapping slower cars allowing Martini to take fourth from VandeKamp. Just then the yellow flew because Nelson’s front tire was flat and broken forcing him to leave the track. The restart was Sabraski with Czech and VandeKamp behind him. Martini, Czech and VandeKamp went three wide for second with VandeKamp getting the point. Martini took third with Czech and Matuska as the top drivers. VandeKamp chased down Sabraski but didn’t have enough time as the checkered flew. Sabraski took the win with VandeKamp, Martini, Matuska and Czech as the top five.


Ross Mead and Tom Kellen led the Viking Coke WISSOTA Mod fours through turn four as the green flew. Mead took the early lead and kept it through a series of early cautions. As the race got going, Mead still led with Kyle Thell and Josh Abrahamson behind him. Abrahamson moved next to Mead for first with Thell in third. Troy Kuehl was in fourth and slid next to Thell for third. Abrahamson was able to pass Mead and take the lead but Mead kept close on his bumper. Thell kept third with Kuehl and Mitch Hribar battling for fourth. Kuehl again moved next to Thell for third and they both passed Mead for second. Kuehl and Thell continued to battle for second as they closed in on Abrahamson for first. The yellow flew slowing the drivers down but the restart was Abrahamson with Kuehl and Thell behind him. Abrahamson sped away in first with Kuehl grabbing second and Thell getting third. Mead found himself battling Hribar and Dean Larson for fourth. Larson took fourth and Hribar took fifth putting Mead back into sixth as the race wined down. Abrahamson kept his lead and won the feature race.


Josh Anderson and Adam Ayotte took off as the green flew for the Ray’s Auto Body WISSOTA Super Stocks. Anderson took the lead with Chris Wark challenging Ayotte for second. Shane Sabraski moved into fourth and Dave Mass took fifth. Wark and Ayotte went to the sides of Anderson going three wide for first as Tim Patchen spun out and the yellow flew. The restart was Anderson with Wark and Ayotte behind him. Sabraski moved through the traffic, took second, and got behindAnderson for first. Sabraski took the lead from Anderson and Dave Mass moved into third. Mass and Anderson battled for second and Mass took the point while Dan Gullikson grabbed third. Sabraski and Mass pulled away from the competition and Mass began to close the gap with Sabraski. Sabraski and Mass began to lap slower cars and so did Gullikson. Wark moved into the fifth position and slid next to Ayotte for fourth. Wark and Ayotte caught slower cars giving Wark the opportunity to take fourth. Wark took fourth and Anderson took fifth while Mass caught Sabraski. Ayotte went around in turn four bringing out the yellow with only two laps to go. The restart was Sabraski with Mass and Gullikson behind him in single file. Mass chased down Sabraski and tried to take the lead, but Sabraski was too fast and he took the checkered and his second feature win of the night.


The Grand Casino WISSOTA Modifieds came onto the track for the last feature of the night. Wayne Troseth and J.T. Johnson lined up the drivers as the green dropped. Troseth took the early lead with Mass, Dustin Nelson and Johnson going for second. Mass took second and slid next to Troseth for first. Mass took the lead with Troseth in second and Johnson in third. Sabraski, Justin Jones, Nelson and Dave Cain all battled for top positions with Sabraski grabbing fourth and Cain and Nelson going for fifth. Cain took fifth and quickly took fourth form Sabraski. Cain moved in on Johnson and Troseth for second as the yellow flew. The restart order was Mass followed by Johnson and Troseth. Sabraski went high on the restart and moved into third with Troseth taking second. Cain however moved next to Sabraski and they both went to the sides of Troseth. Cain and Sabraski both passed Troseth and Cain took second while Sabraski settled for third. Johnson held onto fourth and Larry Zeller, who started back in 15th, took over fifth. Cain then passed Mass and took the lead putting Mass in second and Sabraski in third. Zeller and Johnson battled for fourth while JB Stortz joined them. Johnson held onto fourth but Stortz and Zeller rode his bumper. Cain continued to dominate the race as he lapped slower cars. Zeller took over fourth, Johnson went to fifth with Stortz staying on his bumper. Cain had the checkers in sight and took the feature win with a lead of 2.95 seconds over Mass in second. Sabraski, Zeller and Johnson took the top five points.
