Princeton Speedway: August 10

The Mille Lacs County fair was in full swing as the night of WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Series action entertained many fans on Friday night. The track was in great shape as the drivers put on an excellent show of racing for the fans. Dave Read, Landon Atkinson and Bud Martini took home feature wins, with Shane Sabraski taking home a couple.

Dan Foss and Pat Zerfas led the WISSOTA Street Stocks onto the track for the first feature event. As the green flew Zerfas grabbed the lead and Brad Schmidt moved into second. Kurt Becken and Dave Read battled for third while Justin Pogones moved into fifth. Becken took over third, but Read kept close and soon was at his side again. Read took third this round and Becken took fourth with Pogones at his door. Pogones grabbed fourth and moved in on Read while Schmidt chased down Zerfas. Schmidt worked Zerfas for the lead, but Zerfas held it and sped off. Read caught Schmidt and they battled for second with Pogones moving in behind them. Read and Schmidt battled door to door for multiple laps, and on lap ten, Read edged ahead and took the point. Pogones moved next to Schmidt and they battled for third while Read closed in on Zerfas. Zerfas and Read battled for the lead, and Read was faster and took the lead with few laps to go. Pogones locked into third and slid next to Zerfas for second. Zerfas and Pogones’ noses were lined up as they crossed the finish line. The white flew and Pogones and Zerfas were still side by side for second. The checkered waved and Read took the win, with Zerfas getting second barely a thousandth of a second ahead of Pogones.

Ross Mead and Landon Atkinson battled for first as the green dropped for the Viking Coke WISSOTA Mod Fours. After a couple laps Atkinson was able to take the lead with Mead and Josh Abrahamson battling for second. Abrahamson took second while Larson challenged Mead. Larson quickly took third with Mead and Mitch Hribar in the top points. Abrahamson moved next to Atkinson for the lead as Mead moved next to Larson. Larson held onto third but this gave Hribar the chance to take fourth, and he did putting Mead into fifth. Atkinson and Abrahamson were still battling for the lead as they caught a slower car. As they made the pass, Atkinson was able to speed ahead and take over the lead. Atkinson held off the competition and won the feature race with Abrahamson, Larson, Hribar and Mead in tow.

The Coors Light WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next up to race and as the green flew Rookie Ryan Putnam took the lead. Denis Czech moved to Putnam’s side, and took the lead as Martini moved in. Through turns one and two, Martini moved from third into the lead with Czech in second. Czech moved next to Martini for the lead and Jeremy Nelson joined as the yellow flew. The drivers were slowed and Martini was first on the restart. Czech took second and as Nelson moved in to battle, but the yellow flew again. Martini led the drivers until the green reappeared and Nelson grabbed second. Czech held third but Shane Sabraski moved to his side and Tim Siercks was in their rear view. Sabraski took over third as Nelson closed in on Martini. Nelson and Martini were neck and neck cruising around the track until Nelson got a slight lead on him. Martini moved back to Nelson’s side and Sabraski got on their rears. Martini retook the lead and Nelson kept second with Sabraski in third. They began lapping cars and as the laps ticked away, Sabraski moved next to Nelson. Nelson held off Sabraski keeping second while Martini took the win.

Joel Collins took the lead as the Ray’s Auto Body WISSOTA Super Stock feature began. Dave Read moved into second with Cale Berry in third. Mike Loomis, Dan Gullikson and Kyle Robideau battled three wide for fourth as the yellow flew. Collins was first on the restart with Read and Berry behind him. Gullikson wasted no time and moved into third and next to Read for second. Shane Sabraski took fourth with Mike Loomis behind him. Gullikson was able to take second after a lap, and he caught Collins for first. Gullikson took the lead putting Collins in second with Sabraski at his door. Sabraski grabbed second and Collins fell to third. Read and Loomis were in a tight battle for fourth as Loomis took the point and moved next to Collins. Loomis and Read moved to the sides of Collins and they went three wide for third as James Tranting III went off turn two barely missing the wall. The yellow flew and drivers were sorted. Gullikson and Sabraski battled side by side for first as the green flew and Gullikson took the point. Read and Collins continued their battle for third with Loomis on their tails as Sabraski went to the tracks high side and put his foot down. Sabraski quickly took the lead, Gullikson got second and Read took third. Sabraski held off Gullikson until the checkered flew and took the feature win.

The Grand Casino WISSOTA Modifieds rolled onto the track for the final feature of the night with Clayton Wagamon and Larry Zeller on the front row. As the green flew Wagamon took the lead with Zeller in second and Jeff Patchen, Erik Peterson and Danny Staff going three wide for third. The drivers were going into turn two as Patchen’s car turned around and drivers scattered to miss him. The yellow flew with Dustin Nelson, Joey Jensen and Shawn Fletcher were caught in the curve. All drivers were ok to continue racing and lined up with Patchen being charged for the caution. Wagamon led the drivers to the green with Zeller and Staff battling for second. Dustin Nelson and Shane Sabraski battled for fourth with Nelson getting the point. Jensen then moved next to Sabraski and they ganged up on Nelson for fourth as the #20 of Patchen began to roll in turn two. The race went red as emergency crews fled to Patchen. His car rolled multiple times, and took a beating. Patchen was ok but was checked over by Fairview’s Ambulance crew. The drivers were sorted out and Wagamon was still in the lead. Zeller grabbed second and Sabraski, Staff, Jensen and Nelson all battled for top points. Sabraski took third and fought Zeller for second with Jensen on their rears. Sabraski took second and Jensen moved aside Zeller for third with Wagamon dominating in first. As Wagamon rounded turn one, he suddenly turned into the infield and the yellow flew. Wagamon’s drive shaft laid in turn one and Wagamon was unable to continue racing. The restart was now Sabraski with Zeller and Jensen behind him. Zeller and Jensen battled for second as the green flew with Staff in fourth behind them. Jensen took second followed by Zeller, Staff and Dan Wheeler. They ran that order until Sabraski took the checkered flag and his second feature win of the night.
