FCS volleyball has 1-3 week

First, the victory.

The Saints traveled to South St. Paul Friday night where they trimmed Hope Christian 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-16).

“We took care of business in a match in which we were favored,” said FCS Coach Mike Sohre. “We served well, at 89 percent, our second best this season.”

Lauren Freichels was 16-18 serving with 10 aces and she had three kills and 20 digs while Carlyn Ross was 14-14 serving with five aces and she had three kills and five digs. Madde Brown was 13-16 serving with three aces and she had three kills and 11 digs and Korrina Rauschendorfer was 9-10 serving with two aces.

Now, the setbacks.

On Monday, Oct. 1, Faith Christian lost to St. Cloud Christian 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-17) in a match played at St. Cloud Cathedral.

“We played pretty well but St. Cloud Christian is a tall, solid team,” said Sohre. “They are young but have been playing together since sixth grade – they are going to be a force for a long time.”

Freichels was 16-17 serving with five aces and she notched five kills and had 31 digs. Ashley Johnson was 10-11 serving with three aces and she had 19 digs while Brown had 39 digs.

On Saturday, the Saints traveled to Rochester Area Home School 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-5) and St. Cloud Christian 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-22).

“We were flat against Rochester,” said Sohre. “Our attitude was good but we had a hard time getting going after traveling Friday and Saturday.

“Rochester and St. Cloud Christian are tied for second place in the Christian Athletic League, so we faced another good team.”

Freichels was 7-9 serving and had 10 digs against Rochester while Johnson was 6-6 serving and had eight digs. Ashley Nordvik was 4-4 serving and had 10 digs.

Against St. Cloud Christian School, Johnson was 11-12 serving with six aces and she had three kills and 18 digs while Freichels was 11-14 serving with four aces and she had 18 digs. Ross was 14-14 serving with five aces while Rauschendorfer was 8-10 serving with two aces and she had nine digs.

“We played much better against St. Cloud than we did earlier in the week,” said Sohre.

FCS is at Valley Christian Friday, then travels to Brainerd Christian Monday.
