Runners have good day at Becker meet

Junior Cameron Sundberg won the boys race and the girls team placed second to lead Milaca at the Becker Cross Country Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Pebble Creek Golf Course.

Sundberg covered the 5,000-meter course in 17:41. Mora ninth-grader Noah Moravec was second in 17:54.83 and Mora junior Brendan Johnson was third in 17:56.08.

Sophomore Jacob Riebel of Milaca placed 26th in 19:19.56.

Mora won the boys team title with 48 points, with Watertown-Mayer second at 80, North Branch third at 84 and Becker fourth at 88. Pine City was fifth with a score of 106, Zimmerman was sixth at 122 and Milaca was seventh with a score of 147.

North Branch won the varsity girls title with a score of 49. The Wolves were a close second at 62, Watertown-Mayer was third at 89, Pine City was fourth at 92, Becker was fifth at 94 and Mora was sixth at 104.

Milaca senior Julia Putz finished seventh in 16:56.15 over 4,000 meters while seventh-grader Allison Mathison was ninth in 16:59.24.

Senior Kaija Crowe placed 17th in 17:32.80, sophomore Irina Danilyuk was 18th in 17:36.76, sophomore Alex Ploeger was 22nd in 17:54.57 and ninth-grader Lizzy Fordyce placed 25th in 18:00.81

North Branch eighth-grader Rhianna Rinke won the girls race in 15:09.97. Junior Bethany Coop of Mora placed second in 15:53.17 and junior Liz Miller of W-M was third in 16:10.0.

Milaca won the junior high girls title with a score of 26. Seventh-grader Caylee Trieberni was fourth, eighth-grader Emma Bolt was sixth, seventh-grader Kendall Rensenbrink was 15th, eighth-grader Brandhi Whittimore was 16th, seventh-grader Emma Burns was 17th, eighth-grader Hailey Stobb was 20th and eighth-grader Kalina Warner was 23rd.

Junior Ellen So placed fourth in the girls junior varsity race in 19:17.64 while junior Leah Bergantzel was 17th in 20:51.10.

Milaca placed second in the boys junior high race as eighth-grader Gabe Perry was second, eighth-grader Zach Korvela was sixth, eighth-grader Sam Petty was 11th, eighth-grader Mitch Garber was 22nd and eighth-grader Brett Husman was 24th.

Milaca is at the Granite Ridge Conference Meet Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Princeton, with the first event starting at 3:30 p.m.
