Milaca faces Cathedral in playoff opener

Milaca, seeded No. 6, will face No. 3-seeded St. Cloud Cathedral in the first round of the Section 5AAA Football Playoff Tuesday, Oct. 23, at St. Cloud State University’s Husky Stadium.

Game time is 6:15 p.m.

Mora, seeded No. 4, will host No. 5-seeded Pine City Tuesday at Mora.

No. 1-seeded Annandale and No. 2-seeded Foley received byes in the first round. The Milaca-Cathedral winner will travel to Foley Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. while Annandale will host the Mora-Pine City winner that same night at 7.

The championship game is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 3, at Husky Stadium at 4 p.m.

Milaca finished the season 0-8 while Cathedral was 3-5. The Crusaders defeated the Wolves 42-18 Oct. 5 in Milaca’s homecoming game.

Cathedral quarterback Jeff Fasching leads a strong passing attack and backs Nick Manthy and Bryan Bower led a strong running game. Fasching threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns in Cathedral’s earlier win.

Milaca closed the regular season with a 54-36 loss at Little Falls Wednesday, Oct. 17 while Cathedral lost to Zimmerman 69-27.
