Vern Bloom

A memorial service for Vern Bloom, 78, of Bloomington, Minn. will be Sunday Dec. 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Milaca. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca at a later date.
Vern died Oct. 20 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn.
He was born Sept. 3, 1934 to Marvin and Lillian Bloom of Milaca. He graduated from Milaca High School in 1952 and went on to college at the University of Minnesota where he earned a degree in Sociology. Vern was a professor at Augsburg college for over 30 years where he started many innovative programs.
Vern loved reminiscing about his days growing up in Milaca and had written articles for the Mille Lacs County Times over the last few years. He also loved music and helped to put on programs at the Elim Home in Milaca entitled “Milaca Memories.”
He is survived by his wife Nancy of Bloomington, Minn.; sons, Randy (Connie) and Chris; stepchildren, David (Lisa) and Kari (Scott); six grandchildren; siblings, Shirley (Bloom) Janzen of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Muriel (Bloom) Shand of Isanti, Minn., Alan of Maple Grove, Minn. and Roger (Kathy) of Lonsdale, Minn.; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents Lillian (Hagglund) Bloom, Marvin Bloom and stepmother Donna (Dahl) Bloom.
