The Princeton girls swim and dive team wrapped its season at the Section 5A meet, hosted Nov. 9-10 by Grand Rapids. The Tigers placed fourth in the tough section, with several medals earned on the trip north.

“The fourth-place finish was fantastic for us, considering we only had 15 girls competing, while other teams qualified much larger numbers for sections,” said Tiger Coach Sarah Schuppenhauer. “We had good accomplishments, particularly on our relays. Our 200 Medley Relay put together its fastest time ever.”

That medley grouping of Claire Barthel, Amanda Johnson, Amanda Groebner and Montana Lawrence placed third at 2:00.32, the new school mark. Lawrence later missed state by just four seconds when she placed third at 5:28.6 in the 500 Freestyle. Barthel also was third in the 100 Backstroke at 1:03.3, barely missing the state standard by three-tenths of a second.

More Tiger individual medals came from Lawrence in the 200 Free (5th), Barthel in the 200 IM (6th), Megan Gourley in Diving (8th), and Groebner in the 100 Butterfly (6th).

Senior Amanda Groebner placed 9th in the 5A diving competition during Saturday’s finals in Grand Rapids.
