Gerald Magel

Gerald “Jerry” W. Magel, 69 of Brainerd, formerly of Coon Rapids,  passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Cloud.

Gerald Wayne Magel was born in Minneapolis on December 25, 1942, the son of Paul and Catherine (Warner) Magel.

Jerry attended Willard Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High and Minneapolis North High School.  He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving our country for 14 years.  He served in the Vietnam War working on the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier.  Gerald worked for Minneapolis Electric Steel.  He later worked for Tool Products in New Hope.

Jerry loved to fish; bass and Muskie fishing were his favorite.  Jerry was a very good bowler.  He was a lefty.  He bowled in leagues and tournaments with his sons, Tim and Mike.  He won many tournaments.  He also enjoyed playing cribbage.  His enthusiasm for baseball and coaching his sons earned him the nickname of Billy Martin.

Jerry is survived by his sons Michael Magel and Timothy Magel; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; brother Lawrence Magel; sister Barbara (Van) Hendricks; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Catherine Magel; sister Janet “Toots” Woodworth; brothers Paul Magel Jr. and Johnny Magel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Christ Our Light Catholic Parish, North Campus in Princeton with visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Private Inurnment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
