Rebecca Omundson Petersen, age 86, Princeton, passed away on December 24, 2012, at the Elim Care Center in Princeton. She was born on November 19, 1926, to Joseph and Mathilda (Chrestiansen) Omundson at the family farm near Estherville, Iowa in Emmet County. She was the youngest of eight children.
Becky completed 8th grade at the public schools in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and later in life earned her GED. She completed Cosmetology College in Des
Moines and received her state certification in December 1946. She owned and operated shops in Estherville.
On February 18, 1950, Becky was united in marriage in Fairmont to Lyle Petersen of Dunnell and in December of that
year, moved to a farm east of Zimmerman. There they farmed and worked. Becky opened a shop in her home in 1958. Sheretired fromhairdressing around 1982 for health reasons. Her “Becky’s Beauty Shop “ sign was a navigational landmark.
Longtime members of St. John Lutheran Church in Zimmerman, Becky and Lyle were involved in many activities and functions for the church and in the community. They loved traveling, camping, and fishing.
Rebecca is survived by her son Jerry (Marlys); daughter Sheryl; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband Lyle on October 26, 2011; sisters Albertine Sunde, Lorinda Burkhart, Josephine Cole, Andriena Herrmann and brothers James, Oscar, and Simon Omundson.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, Dec. 28 at St. John Lutheran Church, Zimmerman.. Interment was in Livonia Cemetery, Zimmerman.
