Faith Christian School’s boys basketball team lost twice before the holiday break but there was one huge highlight for the team.
North Metro of Roseville flew past the Saints 80-27 Tuesday, Dec. 18 and Calvin Christian of Fridley topped FCS 70-53 Thursday, Dec. 20. Both games were at Faith Christian.
The big highlight came in the game against Calvin Christian when senior forward/center Micah Andrews of Faith Christian recorded his 1,000th career rebound.
Andrews’ 1,000th rebound was an offensive rebound. A few seconds later he hauled off a defensive rebound after which play was stopped and Andrews was presented a banner in honor of his accomplishment.
“One thousand rebounds is a monster accomplishment that speaks of nothing more than determination and lots of hard work, night in and night out,” said Don Andrews, FCS coach and Micah’s father.
Andrews led the Saints against Calvin Christian as he totaled 19 points, 18 rebounds, two blocked shots and three assists.
Senior forward Paul Selin scored 17 points while senior guard Calvin Luitjens scored 14 points and had four assists and three steals. Senior center Cullen Curott had 12 rebounds.
Faith Christian trailed 44-42 early in the second half but Calvin pulled away in the closing minutes.
North Metro jumped out to a 22-0 lead and held a 58-7 halftime margin. The Blazers are ranked 19th nationally among teams made up of home-schooled players.
The Saints’ roster was down to six players because of injuries and academic suspensions.
“They smothered us with their half-court trapping defense,” said coach Andrews.
Micah Andrews scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds.
Faith Christian hosts South Metro of Bloomington Friday night at 6:45.
