Milaca girls travel to Princeton

Milaca’s girls basketball team travels to Princeton tonight (Thursday, Jan. 3) for a Granite Ridge Conference game at 7:30.

The Wolves, 1-7 overall and 0-4 in GRC games, will by trying to break a six-game losing streak. Princeton is 3-1 in GRC play and 5-6 overall after dropping three games at the Monticello Holiday Tournament.

Milaca went 0-2 at the Aitkin Holiday Tournament. The Wolves lost to Aitkin 53-25 Thursday, Dec. 27 and Mesabi East 59-48 Friday, Dec. 28.

Aitkin was able to limit Milaca to 12 points in the first half and 13 in the second half.

Center Molly Banks led the Wolves with nine points and seven rebounds. Guard Ashley Cassens added five points and four rebounds.

Milaca and Mesabi East were tied at 29-29 at halftime before Mesabi East outscored the Wolves 30-19 in the second half.

Guard Makayla Paggen paced the Wolves with 18 points and four rebounds while Banks had 10 points and nine rebounds.

In conference play, Becker topped Milaca 59-31 Dec. 18 at Becker and Zimmerman defeated Milaca 62-38 Dec. 20 at Zimmerman.

Milaca’s next home game is Tuesday, Jan. 8, against Albany, at 7:30 p.m.
