County Board Briefs: Dec. 18

The following news items are from the Dec. 18 meeting of the Mille Lacs County Board. They were compiled by reporter Luther Dorr.

Funeral homes rate increase approved

County funeral homes requested an increase in the wholesale cost of caskets ($30) and vaults ($20), as well as an increase of $50 for professional services. Robert Cornelius, director of the Community & Veterans Services Department, recommended the wholesale costs be approved but not the request for an increase in professional services, citing the fact the county did not increase its levy for 2013. Commissioner Phil Peterson asked when the last increase was for professional services and was told it was 2010. He then made a motion, which passed, for the increase in professional services, as well as the wholesale costs.

OK given to repurchase forfeited lands

An application from Gregory Andrzejeski to repurchase tax-forfeited land was approved. The repurchase price was $17,583 and the land will be returned to county tax rolls.
