Falcons ready, roll past Wolves

Foley stomped Milaca 55-35 in a Granite Ridge Conference boys basketball game Thursday, Jan. 24, at Foley.

For Milaca Coach Dustin Naumann, the reason why his team lost a one-sided game that shaped up to be an even match was simple.

“Foley came out ready to play and we didn’t,” said Naumann. “You have to be ready to play every time out.

“We were ice cold shooting the ball from anywhere. We had numerous open looks and we didn’t capitalize. In order to win games you have to put the ball in the hoop and we struggled with that. Foley did a nice job of taking care of the ball and really worked for its points. Our defense was OK but that was about it.”

Sophomore forward Mike Garber led the Wolves with 11 points. Junior guards Brian Kiel and Justin Fransen and junior forward Nick Wolbert each had six points.

Milaca made just 11 of 49 shots from the field, two of 17 from three-point range.

Senior guard Nathan Boeckman paced Foley with 17 points while senior guard Sam Udermann had 12 and senior forward Tyler Templin scored 11.

Milaca slipped to 1-5 in GRC games and 5-8 overall while Foley moved to 2-6 and 5-8.

Milaca is at Mora Friday at 7:30 p.m., then travels to Little Falls Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7:30.

“One of our goals this season was to compete and conference games and now we’re 1-5,” said Naumann. “So, we really need to step it up.”
