Princeton depot getting county support

The board approved a request from the Mille Lacs County Historical Society (MLCHS) to be the fiscal agentĀ  to reapply for a legacy grant from the Minnesota Historical Society to replace the roof of the century-old former depot in Princeton. The MLCHS was previously denied the grant, but the state Historical Society suggested it would award the grant if the MLCHS has a governmental fiscal agent through the county.
MLCHS board president Penny Quast was at the county board meeting to answer questions about the fiscal-agent request. She explained that the grant would go to the county, which would then disburse the funds to the contractor(s) chosen to do the roof project. The old depot building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Its wood shingle roof has been deteriorating for years.
