LaVonne Oehmen

LaVonne N. Oehmen, age 88, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Elim Care and Rehabilitation Center in Princeton.Oehmen,-LaVonne
LaVonne was born on November 29, 1924, in St. Francis, the daughter of Paul F. and Alice (Lea) Morton. LaVonne was raised on the family farm near St. Francis. She was one of eleven children and she and all of her Morton siblings had red hair. She graduated from St. Francis High School. LaVonne met the love of her life on a blind date. She was married to Leo Oehmen on March 4, 1946, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Elk River. LaVonne and Leo had five children. She was a devoted homemaker and mother to her family.
Her faith journey was very important to her, along with her commitment to the Catholic church teachings.  LaVonne was known as an exceptional baker. She was always baking homemade bread, buns, cookies, Parker House rolls for holiday gatherings and had a special gift for making fruitcake with lots of brandy in it. She had a wonderful strength of character and loved life to its fullest. She enjoyed listening to country western music, watching her favorite soap operas and, together with Leo, they both loved bird watching.
LaVonne is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Leo; children Pete (Jean) Oehmen, Marie (Mark) Bleskachek, Cathy ( Dave) Peetz, Paul Oehmen and Jim Oehmen; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; siblings Patty (Cliff) Nutter, Bonita (Dick) Wells, Sharon (Cliff) Edblad, Bruce (Joy) Morton, Gary (Sandy) Morton, Fred (Claudia) Morton; many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives and friends.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents Paul F. and Alice Morton; siblings Clinton Morton, Doug Morton, Stan Morton, Donna Swanson; sister and brother in-law, Lucille and Earl Swanson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Christ Our Light Catholic Parish-North Campus, Princeton, with Rev. Kevin Anderson presiding. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Christ Our Light Catholic Parish, Princeton, with parish prayers at 5:00 p.m. and visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Burial will be at St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery, Princeton.
