Ethel B. Heath, age 92, of Aitkin formerly of Mound and Princeton, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.Ethel-Heath
Ethel was born September 30, 1920, at Clarkfield, the daughter of Oley and Sadie (Richardson) Handeland. She grew up and attended schools in Clarkfield, graduating from the Clarkfield High School. She married Charles F. Heath on May 26, 1945, in Hennepin County. They made their home in Mound, where they owned and operated Chuck’s Hardware Store for over 25 years. For many years, they had been coming to their cabin on Cedar Lake near Aitkin and in 1971, they moved to Aitkin and made their home here. Ethel’s husband Charles died in 1973. She continued living in Aitkin and worked for Francin’s Clothing Store and Eleanor’s Boutique before moving to Princeton in 2002. She lived there until moving back to Aitkin in 2011, when she entered the Aicota Health Care Center. She enjoyed reading and gardening and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Aitkin.
She is survived by grandchildren Katherine Freund of Minneapolis, Katherine Nyberg of St. Cloud, Ruth (Jim) Bender of Aitkin and Charlie (Krista) Anderson of Aitkin; great-grandchildren Samantha and Gina Nyberg, Daniel Bender and Jake Anderson and sons-in-law Kerry Freund and Todd Pieper. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles; daughters Nancy Eck, Susan Pieper and Karen Freund; two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. from the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin with Rev. Darrell Pedersen officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial will be in the Mound Union Cemetery at Mound.
