Oliver joins Chamber as interim director

The Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC) hired Jim Oliver, Princeton, to be the chamber’s temporary office coordinator while the chamber takes applications to fill the position permanently.
The deadline for submitting applications for the coordinator job is Friday, April 26. The chamber’s telephone number is 763-389-1764.
The vacancy arose after the chamber board terminated chamber coordinator Mary Chapman on April 8. She had been in the job since November 2009.
Oliver is a retired Princeton postal carrier, former restaurant owner in Princeton and former Baldwin Township board supervisor. He is still on the rosters of the Princeton and Baldwin fire and rescue departments, and does clerical work for the Bright Child Childcare Center in Princeton.
Oliver, who took the temporary position on April 9, is helping the chamber prepare for the June Rum River Festival besides handling daily chamber office duties. His office hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
There’s a “learning curve,” Oliver said last week about the job at the chamber office.
The chamber has been advertising on Facebook and Craigslist to fill the permanent chamber coordinator job and had about 10 applicants midway through last week. Chamber President Scott Berry said the board wants to hire someone before the Rum River Festival begins.
Oliver said he doesn’t want the permanent job. The hours, especially during the summer, “would probably be a little too much for me,” he said.
