Tiger Girls Track takes 1st at Zimmerman Quad

In their final tune-up before this week’s Section 7AA meet, the Princeton girls won the May 21 Zimmerman Quadrangular. The Tiger boys finished third behind Little Falls and the host Thunder.

The Section 7AA prelims will be May 29 at the University of Minnesota-Duluth track, with the meet resuming at UMD on Saturday, June 1. At stake are berths in the June 7-8 Class AA state meet.

At Zimmerman, Coach Tom Ostroot had the opportunity to try some of his athletes in different events. Senior Maddy Wood ended up sweeping first places in the 200-meter (27.9), the 400 (1:04.1) and on the 4×100 relay with Taylor Laabs, Katie Bialka and Anna Oakes (51.8). That group ran to within 1/10 of a second of the girls team record.

Becky Case overcame the chilly conditions to clear a personal-best 4-08 in the high jump, good for second place. More Princeton girls highlights from the meet: Oakes first in the 800 (2:25); Jadyn Bonasera first in the discus (121-03) and second in the shot put (33-06); Laabs first in the triple jump (33-02); Bialka second in the 300 hurdles (50.2); Ashley Urman first in the 3200 (13:04).

• Ostroot strung together Cole Warren, Chase Lindenfelser, Cody Schuelke and Tanner Palmborg in the 4×100 relay, and the group responded with the team’s fastest time of the season at 46.6 to win the event. Palmborg stayed loose by winning the 100 (11.4) and the 200 dashes (23.3) at Zimmerman.

Max Mattson posted a first-place time of 16.2 in the 110 hurdles, and Chase Arens won the 3200 at 10:31. Additional Tiger boys highlights from the meet: Nicholas Johnson second in the 400 (58.3) and third in the triple jump (35-06); Lindenfelser second in the 300 hurdles (43.4); Jaron Mills second (17-02) and Warren fourth (17-0) in the long jump.
