Doug married Grace Johnson on September 8th, 1962 in Eagle Bend, MN. The couple moved to the Princeton area in 1972.  Doug was employed as a meat cutter for the John Morrell Company for fifteen years.  He then took a position with the United States Department of Agriculture working as a meat grader. He stayed with the USDA for fifteen years. Doug then took employment with Princeton Plastics.  He worked for Princeton Plastics as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for ten years before his retirement.  Doug was an active and dedicated member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Princeton and served as a church elder.  Doug was passionate about gardening and sharing his harvest.  He and Grace were among the first to help start the Princeton Farmers Market.  They faithfully supported and participated as vendors in the market for 22 years.  He was known for the apples he produced from his 40 apple trees, for having high quality and quantity of raspberries, cherries, strawberries, and blueberries.  He also grew 8 different varieties of potatoes.  In the non-gardening season Doug enjoyed hunting small game and deer as well as turning and carving wood.  He was very gifted in working with wood and made many beautiful vases, bowls, children’s toys and plates. He was also interested in making his own venison sausage and if he had any extra berries, he would make fruit wine.  Doug loved the outdoors and nature; he was always reading to learn more and loved to share his knowledge, especially with young people.  He volunteered with helping local scouting groups and with 4-H groups.   He will be dearly missed.
