Man electrocuted, killed in Orrock accident

A 46-year-old Big Lake man died July 7 after being electrocuted while charging a boat battery.
Daniel Peterson and his sister, Kris Biser, 49, were found floating and unresponsive in Eagle Lake in Orrock Township at about 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. Eagle Lake is north of Big Lake in Sherburne County, about 20 miles southwest of Princeton.
Witnesses said Peterson was attempting to charge a battery on his boat while the boat was in the water, according to a statement issued by Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott. Peterson was standing in approximately 20 inches of water when he lost his footing and fell in the water while holding onto the battery charger.
According to witnesses, Biser witnessed the fall and attempted to help her brother by running into the water. She was also electrocuted and was unconscious. Neighbors pulled an electrical cord from an electric socket then pulled Peterson and Biser from the water.
Deputies arrived at the 23000 block of 188th Street in Orrock Township and administered CPR to Peterson, according to Sherburne County Joel Brott. Biser was breathing on her own after neighbors administered first aid, Brott stated. Peterson was transported by helicopter to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Biser was taken by ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
Peterson died three days later.
