Milaca native turns ‘Solider Poet’

Reflections of lifeJon Nelson, born in Milaca in 1975, has published his second book of poems, the latest of which is “Reflections of Life.” After leaving Milaca, Nelson’s family settled in Brainerd and from there, he joined the U.S. Army.

A lot of Nelson’s poetry is based on his real life experiences; however his military and patriotic poems only make up about 25 percent of his repertoire. Because of his patriotism and writing about the military it has earned him the nickname of “Soldier Poet.” Nelson hopes that his work can in some way, unite people and help bring mankind closer together.

Copies of “Reflections” and other books Nelson has published can be purchased at Nelson donates 25 percent of the proceeds from this book to the Wounded Warrior Project.
