Fall sports teams report Aug. 12

Yep, it’s that time again! Milaca High School fall sports teams will begin drills Monday, Aug. 12, with their season openers scheduled the final week of August.

Here’s the lowdown:

•Football: Players in grades 9-12  should report to the high school  locker room at  7 a.m. Aug.  12.  Practice will begin at  7:15 and will go until  12:30 p.m.

Practice will be divided into two sessions. Session 1 will be from   7:15 – 9:30 am.   There will be a break and team meetings from  9:30 – 10:30.   Session 2  will be from  10:30 – 12:30 p.m.   A calendar with the practice schedule can be found on the Milaca Wolves Football website and will be handed out to players on the first day of practice.

Players need to have a current physical on file at the school. All other paperwork will be handed out to players on the first day of practice.

On Thursday, Aug. 22,  the annual Wolves Football Extravaganza will be held at Claffy Field. Scrimmages with players in grades  4 – 12. Milaca Youth Football will start off the night at 5:10 p.m. with players in grades  4-5-6.   Players in  grades 7-8  will check out equipment from  5 – 6 and then will be involved in a passing scrimmage at 6:10.     Players in ninth grade will scrimmage on the south end of the field, beginning at  6:15.  Junior varsity players will scrimmage at  6:45, with the varsity scrimmage to follow at  7:30.

The Wolves open their season at Pierz Thursday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m.

•Cross country: Runners in grades 7-12 should meet Monday, Aug. 12, at 8 a.m. at the entrance to the district office near the wolf. The team will continue to practice at that time Monday through Friday until Friday, Aug. 23.

The Wolves open the season Monday, Aug. 26, when they host their annual Early-Bird meet at Stones Throw Golf Course at 4 p.m.

After that meet, practice times will be at 3:20 p.m.

Dave Dillan is the new head coach, taking over for Joe Wildman, who retired. Dillan is director of the annual Milaca Mega Meet and has been assistant coach for several years.

This year’s Milaca Mega Meet is Saturday, Aug. 21, at Stones Throw Golf Course.

•Girls swimming: Varsity and junior varsity swimmers and divers should report at the pool area Monday, Aug. 12, at 8 a.m. Practice will go until 11 a.m.

Jennie Burroughs and Joe Wenner returns as co-head coaches and Sarah Marte is back as diving coach. The Wolves open their season at the Princeton Tiger Relays Thursday, Aug. 29, at 5 p.m.

•Volleyball: Players in grades 9-12 should report to the locker room Monday, Aug. 12, at 8 a.m. Practices for the first two weeks will run from 8 a.m. to noon.

Jamie Taylor returns as head coach.

The Wolves will host a scrimmage Friday, Aug. 16, at 9 a.m. Their first match is at Pine City Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m.
