Hildegarde M. O’Neil

Hildegarde Marie Brunn was born August 22, 1916, to Alexander Brunn and Mary Ann (Biederman)  in Gilmanton Township, Minnesota.

She graduated from Foley High School in l934 and helped families with domestic and child care  before joining the Navy (WAVES) during World War II . There she achieved the rank of Pharmacists Mate Second Class and served as Operating Room Technician in hospitals and dispensaries in  Cherry Point, NC, Bainbridge, MD and Edenton, NC until her  Honorable Discharge Nov. 23, 1945.

On April 24, 1946, she married William B. O’Neil, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Foreston, MN,.  They made their home and raised their  six children in Foreston.   In later years, she lived at Heritage Apts, Foley, Riverside Assisted Living, Royalton, and Foley Nursing Center, Foley.   She  was active in Foreston Mothers’ Club,  Christian Mothers, Parish Council, 4-H Leader , CCD teacher,   housework for pastors , Foreston Senior Citizens, Election Board, Crosier Apostolate, and American Legion  of Foley.

After celebrating her 97th birthday with family, she died at the Foley Nursing Center, with her hospice volunteer at her side..

She is survived by her children and spouses, Basil  (Shirley) O’Neil of Ramsey,  Patrick  (Annette) O’Neil of St. Cloud,  Mary (Kevin) Hemmesch of Sauk Rapids,  Colleen (Ronald) Woods of Cold Spring, MN, Cecilia (Anthony) Krystosek of Royalton, and Beverly (James) Olson of Kimball;
11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 7 step-greatgrandchildren; sister, Margaret Roehl,  of  Milaca, and brother, James Brunn, Great Falls, MT, and numerous other relatives and Godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, on October 26, 2001, parents ; sisters Agnes Baron,  Clara  Cadwell, Amelia  Kolbinger, Laura  Freecheck, Catherine  Roehl, Mary  Tittle; brothers, Benedict, Francis, and Leo  Brunn , and an infant son Sept 1960.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at  10:30  a.m. on Monday, August 26.  Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass.    Interment will follow at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Foreston.  Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 25,at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.
