Princeton Volleyball gets on a roll past Eagles

In the Aug. 24 home-opener, Princeton volleyball racked up a 16-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 victory over visiting St. Cloud Apollo to even up the season record at 1-1.

Charity Hanson had a match-high 33 assists at setter, and she also served a perfect night of 23-for-23 with two aces. Melinda Meyer was 14-for-15 in serving, and she supplied 20 of the team’s 50 digs from her libero spot in the back row.

“Melinda has really impressed me in that position. We really covered ground against Apollo and need to do that every match,” noted Tiger Coach Mary Patnode. She added that Miranda Fredrick, Tyalor Sleen and Meyer all passed at high rates for the Tigers.

More highlights came from Jaydee Green who led with 18 kills, rarely making an error on attack. Hailey Mattson was next with nine kills and three solo blocks. Beth Scharber had six kills and two solo blocks against the Eagles.

• The Tigers began the season with a 3-1 loss at Zimmerman Aug. 22. Green served 25-for-27 with a whopping nine aces in the opener, and she led the hitters with 10 kills. Mattson was right behind with nine kills.

Next up: The Tigers host North Branch Sept. 5 (7 p.m.) in the Mississippi 8 Conference opener.
