Princeton Football swats Hornets 34-13

Princeton evened its conference and season record at 1-1 with a 34-13 smothering of host Big Lake Sept. 6. The Tiger defense limited the Hornets to three total yards and no first downs in the first half of the victory.

Princeton drove 57 yards on its first possession, taking a 7-0 lead on A.J. Wesloh’s 6-yard scoring run. The Tigers made it 13-0 early in the second quarter by finishing off a 55-yard possession with a 24-yard touchdown reception by Billy McClay.

The Hornets got an interception on the third play of the second half, threatening to score before the Tiger defense stopped them on downs at the 4 yard line. Princeton then put together a 14-play drive that ate nearly the remainder of the third quarter and was capped by Zach Kitzman scampering 28 yards for the score.

Linebacker Cam Paulson forced a fumble on the Hornets’ next play, with Princeton recovering. Eight plays later, Weslosh scored from four yards out for a 27-0 lead. Big Lake next cracked the scoreboard by breaking off two long plays, but Wesloh and the offense answered with a 55-yard scoring run for a 34-7 advantage with 7:07 to go.

Next up: The Tigers return home for a Sept. 13 Mississippi 8 game against Duluth Denfeld. The Hunters will be aiming to snap a 15-game losing streak which dates back to the 2011 season.
