The Princeton girls continued their strong season on the tennis courts by winning last Saturday’s Woodbury/East Ridge tournament. The Tigers’ point total bettered the two host teams, along with Chisago Lakes, Hill-Murray, South St. Paul, Pine City and River Falls, Wis.
Mary Claire Mayerchak improved to 16-0 by sweeping her matches at 1st Singles, defeating Pine City’s Natalie Cahill 6-0, 6-1 in the finals. Mayerchak earned her 1,000 power point for Tiger tennis on the weekend.
Kelsey Dorr also took first place at 3rd Singles with a 10-6 win in the tie-break of the 6-4, 4-6 championship battle with Woodbury’s Brooke Hays. Gabby Dahlen and Krysta Maus added a Tiger first place at 4th Doubles by winning 6-1, 6-1 against East Ridge’s entry in their final match.
Placing second for Princeton with 2-1 work at the tourney were Jenna Doyle & Becca Trunk at 1st Doubles, Hannah Johnson & Sarah Stark at 2nd Doubles, and Reilee Schepper at 4th Singles. Also going 2-1 and taking third were Bri Dorr at 2nd Singles and Megan Farley & Becca Maus at 3rd Doubles.
“Jenna and Becca played some of their best tennis of the year at 1st Doubles. They closed on the net and finished off their volleys. They lost in the finals to South St. Paul who teamed up their top two singles players. The match was played at a very high level,” commented Tiger Coach Kelly Dorr. “Bri Dorr at 2nd Singles is figuring out how to compete at a higher level. She lost a very close match to a very talented player from Hill-Murray.
“By going to these tournaments, we are constantly improving our goal as a team to peak at section time.”
