Milaca School Board: Sept. 16 meeting

Week to honor food service staff
The board voted to approve a resolution honoring food service staff during the week of Oct. 7-11.

Board approved referendum passes
The board voted in favor of passing a $300 per pupil levy, applicable for five years, beginning taxes payable in 2014. Board member Todd Quaintance voted against the measure.

G.E.D. teacher to help training center
Community Education Director Bob Sumner told the board one of the teachers who helps with its G.E.D. program will be helping the employment training center to set up its own G.E.D. testing. Sumner also spoke about a New Year’s Eve event planned for younger children, complete with activities, movies, open swim and a simulated ball drop at 9 p.m.

Coach added to seventh grade football
Activities Director Jerry Westphal told the board that 48 students have signed up for seventh grade football this year. With a 24-1 student/coach ratio, Westphal recommended that an additional adult should be hired. A motion was made and carried to hire an additional coach.

Measure to combine jobs tabled
After a lengthy discussion on the merits of combining the Early Childhood Family Education coordinator with the Kids Town, Youth and Adult Enrichment coordinator position, the measure was tabled.
