Faith Christian girls have 3-0 week

Faith Christian School’s volleyball team entered play this week with a 9-3 record after going 3-0 last week.

The Saints opened the week by topping Lake Region Christian of Brainerd 3-2 Monday, Sept. 23, in a hard-fought match at FCS. Faith Christian  handled Hope Christian 3-0 Tuesday, Sept. 24, at FCS, then closed the week with a 3-0 home victory over Immanuel Lutheran of Mankato Friday.

Lake Region won the opening game 25-21 but the Saints came back with a 25-22 win in the second game. The Hornets took a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 win in the third game before Faith Christian tied the match with a 25-20 win and scored the victory with a 15-9 win in the fifth game.

“This was a rematch of a 3-2 Faith Christian victory earlier in the season and it figured to be another highly-competitive match,” said FCS Coach Mike Sohre. “The teams did not disappoint as it turned out to be a slugfest, with both teams making great plays.”

“We were favored in this match but we didn’t take Hope for granted,” said Sohre. “We played hard and at a high level.”

The Saints avenged a loss to Immanuel Lutheran in the consolation finals at the 2012 state meet by topping the Trojans 26-24, 25-17, 25-20.

“It was a good match with many long volleys,” said Sohre. “Our hitting was on spot and that made the difference.

“We played with a lot of heart and defeated a good team.

“Faith and Ashley had great nights at the net and Alison finished a very hard fought and close first game with a nice block to give us the two-point win.”
