Princeton swims past Huskies

ROUND-UP: The Princeton girls swim & dive squad earned a 109-77 home victory over Albany in non-conference action Oct. 14.

The Tigers swept the top three spots in the 100 Freestyle when Julia Woodward (1:00.2), Amanda Johnson (1:04.2) and Gabrielle Donais (1:06.3) swam at good clips. Woodward also posted a 1st place in the 50 Free at 27.5 seconds.

The Princeton divers also took the three top honors against the Huskies, with Megan Gourley scoring 207.3 points, Jordan Spencer at 132.3 and Emily Cooley scoring 129.4.

Montana Lawrence worked the distance events for two more 1st places this season. She finished the 200 Freestyle in 2:09.4 and the 500 Free at 5:31.9. Sophie Hoffer added a 1st place in the 100 Backstroke at 1:12.8.

The meet began with the Tigers placing 1st and 2nd in the 200 Medley Relay, led by Donais, Johnson, Lawrence and Woodward combining for a 2:10.2 time. Montana Thompson was 2nd in the 200 IM (2:44.1), and Johnson was 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke (1:23.0).

• On Oct. 10, St. Michael-Albertville took a step toward clinching the Mississippi 8 team title by defeating the Tigers 96-80. Lawrence finished a very close 2nd in the 500 Free (5:30.3). Placing 3rd for the Tigers against the swift Knights were Kaylee Shelstad in the 200 IM (2:45.2), Gourley in Diving (166.9), Woodward in the 100 Free (1:02.1) and Johnson in the 100 Breaststroke (1:19.5).

Tiger Volleyball seeded 9th for 7AAA playoffs

 Princeton was seeded 9th for the 2013 Section 7AAA volleyball playoffs. The Tigers will open at No. 8 St. Francis on Wednesday, Oct. 23 (7 p.m.). The winner advances to play at No. 1 seed Cambridge-Isanti on Oct. 25. Forest Lake is the No. 4 seed in that half of the 7AAA brackets.Princeton earned its ninth match win of the season by downing visiting Ogilvie in three games Oct. 7.The Tigers also had two Mississippi 8 matches last week, falling to Chisago Lakes 3-0 Oct. 8 and to Cambridge-Isanti 3-1.
