PHS senior a commended student

Princeton High School senior Tate Walquist is one of approximately 34,000 students in the nation named a Commended Student in this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program.Tate Wahlquist

Being a Commended Student means the student is among the top 5 percent of scorers among the 1.5 million students who entered the scholarship competition. Students are automatically entered when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Walquist did not score high enough to be a contender for a Merit Scholarship.

“It was a huge surprise to me,” Walquist said about learning he had been named a Commended Student.

Walquist said he plans to attend college after graduating this year from PHS but is undecided about a school and career.

Walquist’s extracurricular activities at PHS include being captain on the boys soccer and track teams and a member of the Chamber Singers.
