Anti-bullying program prepares for kick off

Pearl Crisis Center and other individuals and groups involved with the Owleus Bullying Prevention Coordinating Committee are busy raising funds to purchase 2,400 T-shirts to be distributed to each student and staff member at Milaca Public Schools.

The logo and slogan design contest ended with the close of October, but there is still time to cast a vote on the winning creation. Anyone can vote for a favorite design by visiting the school’s website,, or by attending parent-teacher conferences next week. A winner will be chosen Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Organizers hope to have the shirts ready for the grand kick-off event for the Owleus program, slated for Jan. 21.

“We have to have these T-shirts before then,” Pearl Director Judy Pearson said.

The shirts will be worn by students and staff at least once a month to show cooperation in providing a safe, friendly learning environment.

Watch the Times each week for the progress indicator on the group’s fundraising efforts.

The Owleus anti-bullying program is known worldwide for significantly reducing the number of bullying incidents in schools. The Milaca participation in the program is made possible by Otto Bremer and CentraCare.
