Tiger ice girls work for two victories

Princeton girls hockey broke into the win column by taking two home games against their former Section 7A partners.

On Nov. 26, Maggie Peterson worked for a short-handed goal off an Alanna Mattson assist 7:37 into overtime to defeat Proctor-Hermantown 4-3. Kara Schramel turned away 34 Mirage shots to earn the win in the nets.

Casey Haverinen and Larkin Walter scored 44 seconds apart for a 2-0 Tiger lead in the first period. Raegan Anderson’s goal 10:27 into the third period had Princeton ahead 3-2, but the Mirage netted the equalizer five minutes later.

On Nov. 29, Princeton outshot Eveleth-Gilbert 42-13 in a 5-1 victory. Jordan Blomquist had two goals and an assist, with solo goals coming from Bridget Walter, Erica Schramel and L. Walter.

Boys Hockey  splits games

The Princeton boys took on 2013 Class A State runner-up Hermantown Nov. 30, but the Hawks stood tall on the home ice for a 6-2 win, scoring the last three goals in the match.

Jake Green’s power play goal cut Hermantown’s first-period lead to 2-1. Jake Carlson then scored on another man-advantage in the second period to keep the Tigers to within 3-2. Max Mattson stopped 47 Hawk shots in the Tiger nets, and Tyler McAlpine assisted on both goals.

Back on Nov. 26, Princeton opened the season with a 6-1 win over Northern Lakes at Breezy Point. Six different Tigers scored against the Lightning: McAlpine, Joey Stenslie, Collin Buness, Green, Silas Reek and A.J. Wesloh.
