Officers responded to the residence at 3:13 a.m. after receiving a report from a neighbor that a fight was occurring between two brothers.

When officers arrived, they observed the female victim, who said she and another son had been assaulted by Hallin.

Hallin was not at the residence when officers arrived. He allegedly fled on foot when he heard sirens, according to witnesses. He was later located by officers and collapsed while running through snow, according to a criminal complaint filed in Mille Lacs County District Court.

Witness reports state that Hallin had allegedly been out drinking that night. When he returned home at approximately 2:30 a.m., he got into a fight with the alleged victims.

A female victim was pushed backwards into a refrigerator, the complaint states. A male victim was grabbed around the throat and pushed up against a wall. The female victim attempted to call 911 using a cellphone, bur Hallin forcefully slapped her, causing the phone to go flying out of her hands and break.

Hallin was charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation, interrupting or interfering with making a 911 call and five misdemeanor counts of domestic assault.
