Tigers hockey teams post tourney wins

The Princeton girls hockey squad extended its winning streak to six games with two victories at last weekend’s Windom Holiday Tourney.

The Tigers began with a 5-3 win over Long Prairie-Wadena-Deer Creek on Dec. 27 when Kara Schramel made 17 saves. Goals by Erica Schramel and Raegan Anderson had Princeton up 2-0, then Maggie Peterson scored twice in the second period to keep the pressure on. Shaylee Iverson netted the team’s final goal off Bridget Walter’s third assist in the game.

On Saturday, Princeton overwhelmed host Windom 14-0. Scoring two goals were Anderson, Schramel, Ashley Bakke and Peterson, with solo goals added by Mikayla Brooks, Bailey Papesh, Jordan Blomquist and Larkin Walter. B. Walter racked up five assists, and L. Walter was next with three assists.

Princeton boys 4th at Roseau

• The Princeton boys skated to a 7-2 win over Mandan, ND in the Dec. 26 opener of the Roseau Holiday Tournament. Cam Paulson and Jake Green both scored two goals against the Braves, with solo goals added by Tyler McAlpine, Joey Stenslie and Derek Abrahamson. Max Mattson stopped 23 shots in the Tiger nets for the victory.

In the Dec. 27 semifinals, host Roseau limited Princeton to single-digit shots in each period in a 6-0 win. That sent the Tigers into Saturday’s 3rd-place game which was won 7-2 by Minot, ND.
