Richard Ellingson

 

Richard Engwald Ellingson, age 97, died on Jan. 14, 2014 at the Elim Care and Rehab Center.

Richard Ellingson was born to Fred and Emma (Johnson) Ellingson on September 22, 1917 in rural Ashby.

He lived and worked on the family farm until being united in marriage to Vivian Troolin in Minneapolis on June 10, 1953. They spent the first 2 years of married life on the family farm near Ashby before moving to the Minneapolis area where he worked as a machinist for Marine Johnson, Inc. for seven years. The family moved to Upsala in 1964 where they owned and operated a dairy farm.

Engwald moved to Princeton in 2007, living independently until August 2011, when he became a resident of Elim Care and Rehab Center.

Engwald had a deep faith, having received the Gospel in his youth. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, reading, farming and the outdoors.

Engwald is survived by children Fred Ellingson of Maplewood; Ardith Ellingson of Springfield; Mary (Paul) Alink of Hermosa, S.D. and Ruth Ellingson of Luverne; four grandchildren, three great-grandsons, many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Vivian, brother Clifford, and sisters, Irene, Stella, Lily, Frances, Celia, Isabel, Ruth and Sylvia.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Princeton.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be in Pelican Lake Cemetery in Ashby at a later date.
