Tiger boys skate to two victories

Princeton picked up two wins in three games last week, starting with an 8-1 win over section-partner Proctor Jan. 14.

Finding the net for two goals each against the Rails were Collin Buness, Jake Green and Cam Paulson, with Derek Abrahamson and Joey Stenslie netting solo goals. Ryan Bolduc and Silas Reek both had two assists in the win, and Max Mattson made 15 saves for the Tigers.

• At Monticello Jan. 16, Princeton dropped a tough 4-3 loss when the Moose scored 7:49 into overtime. Goals by Tyler McAlpine and Stenslie created a 2-0 Tiger lead in the second period. After Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake tied the game, Buness broke away for a short-handed goal, but the Moose re-knotted the game 58 seconds later. Four game misconducts for fighting were passed out between the two teams.

• The Tigers came back with a 5-0 blanking of visiting North Branch Jan. 18. Buness scored twice for the Tigers, with additional goals coming from McAlpine, Green and Abrahamson.

Tiger girls take two-of-three

Princeton-Becker-Big Lake girls hockey worked for a 9-2 non-conference victory over visiting Hutchinson Jan. 16. Larkin Walter scored back-to-back goals for the Tigers two minutes apart in the second period, and she sent home another shot midway through the third period for the hat trick.

Goals by Maggie Peterson, Erica Schramel and Alanna Mattson had the Tigers up 3-0 in the first period.  Peterson finished the night with five points, adding a goal in the second period and totaling three assists. Raegan Anderson (one goal/three assists) and Jordan Blomquist (one goal/three assists) had four-point nights for Princeton, and Kara Schramel stopped 12 shots in the nets.

• The next night, St. Francis-North Branch broke a 3-3 tie with a power play goal in the third period to leave Princeton with a 4-3 conference win. Walter stayed hot with two goals, and Blomquist fired home the other Tiger goal. Peterson added three more assists, and K. Schramel finished with 20 saves.

• On Jan. 21, Princeton began with a hot first period and went on to defeat host Cambridge-Isanti-Mora 5-0 in an M-8 game.
