Tiger girls hockey team seeded 6th for Section 5A playoffs

IMG_9570Closing the regular season with a road win, the Princeton-Becker-Big Lake girls hockey squad is set for the opening round of the Section 5A playoffs.

The Tigers were seeded sixth in the section, and they will take on No. 3 Orono (15-6-2) in the Feb. 6 quarterfinal game at the Parade Ice Garden (7:30 p.m.) in downtown Minneapolis. The Spartans were the Wright County Conference champions this season.

A victory that night would send Princeton-B-BL against either No. 2 Breck (10-14-1) or No. 7 Minneapolis Novas (10-11-1) in the Feb. 11 semifinal game (7:30 p.m.) back at the Parade arena.

• The Tigers defeated host Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato 4-1 in the Feb. 3 regular-season wrap-up. Ashley Bakke scored 1:42 into the game, then Maggie Peterson and Larkin Walter (short-handed) later added goals for a 3-0 Tiger lead in the first period.

  • Princeton finished in fourth place in the Mississippi 8 this season after tying Chisago Lakes 3-3 Jan. 30. Peterson, Casey Haverinen and Erica Schramel found the back of the net for a 3-1 Tiger lead in the second period.
