Baldwin boy saved from collapsed snow tunnel

A 12-year-old Baldwin Township boy was injured Tuesday when a snow tunnel he was digging collapsed, trapping the boy.

Sherburne County deputies arrived on scene to find that the boy’s father had dug him out of a snow bank. Reports were that the boy was buried in the snow from his waist up, according to Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott.

The boy was breathing but unresponsive to parents and emergency responders.  His extremities were white and cold to the touch, Brott said. He was transported by helicopter to North Memorial Hospital. The boy was released from the hospital a few hours later.

The Zimmerman-Livonia Fire and Rescue Department, and North Memorial Ambulance and Aircare assisted on the incident.
