Princeton junior Nicholas Johnson advanced to State in three events when the snow-hampered Section 2A boys swimming and diving championships were completed Feb. 22 at Richfield High.

Johnson began sections by winning the 50 Freestyle at 23.05. He backed that up with nearly a one-second win in the 100 Free when he touched the wall at 49.76. Two events later, Johnson teamed with Ryan Kreft, Bailey Carlberg and Tommy Milam to place second in the 200 Freestyle Relay at 1:35.2– over one second ahead of Benilde’s third-place unit.

Those Tigers will next compete in the Class A Boys Swimming prelims which begin at noon on Friday, Feb. 28 in the U of M Aquatics Center. Top 16 swimmers in each event advance to the finals on Saturday at noon.

Also at sections, Carlberg placed fourth in Diving with 279.5 points, missing out one State by just one placing. The Tigers’ next highest placing came in the 400 Free Relay where Kreft, Milam, Gino Fraboni and Johnson were fifth at 3:39.9.

Princeton finished fifth among the 11 Section 2A teams. More Tigers earning points at sections: Wyatt Lawrence, Scott Furman, Carlberg and Milam sixth in the 200 Medley Relay (1:54.9); Lawrence seventh (2:15.7- 8-second drop) and Furman 12th (2:29.1- 6-second drop) in the 200 IM; Milam seventh (24.4) and Kreft 12th (25.0) in the 50 Free;

Dustin Moinichen ninth (217.1), Parker Carlberg 12th (180.9) and Levi Swanson 13th (173.2) in Diving; Moinichen 11th in the 100 Butterfly (1:03.5); Fraboni 12th (55.7– personal-best) and Kreft 13th (55.8– PB) in the 100 Free; and Swanson ninth (1:11.9– 5-second drop) and Furman 14th (1:12.9– 4-second drop) in the 100 Breaststroke.
