Two injured in Highway 23 crash

Two Milaca-area women were injured in a two-vehicle crash at about noon, Friday, April 11, on Highway 23 at 125th Avenue, also known as County Road 5.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol: A 2004 Jeep Liberty driven by Jody L. Alderink, 50, of Milaca, pulled out from the Koch’s Hardware lot, southbound onto Highway 23. A 2006 Dodge Caravan, driven by Janet Cassidy, of Foreston, was eastbound on Highway 23 traveling towards Milaca and hit the Alderink vehicle broadside on the passenger side of the vehicle when it pulled out onto the highway.

Both drivers were transported to Fairview Northland  Medical Center where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene by Johnson’s Towing.

The Milaca Police Department and Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office assisted the State Patrol at the scene.

Monday crash

Two people were injured in a one-vehicle rollover shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, April 14, on 125th Avenue at 110th Street.

Camden R. Sawyer, 20, of Elk River, was southbound on 125th Avenue in a Pontiac Grand Am. He turned west onto a gravel road at 110th Street and then lost control of his vehicle, according to Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent Lindgren. The vehicle fishtailed until it went off the road on the south ditch and rolled over.

Passengers Austin J. Ergen, 20, of Isle, and Katie E. Timmer, 20, of Monticello, were taken to an area hospital.

Sawyer was cited for inattentive driving.
