Jean  Laing

Jean Laing, age 77, of Princeton, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 while vacationing in Houston, TX. Jean was born on January 4, 1937, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Norman and Allie (Olafson) Hetland.
After graduating from Hopkins High School, Jean met John Laing and they were united in marriage on June 28, 1957 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Hopkins.
Jean received an education degree in 1958 from the University of Minnesota. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Jean was a positive and optimistic person; always looking for the good in everyone. She was a teacher for the Head Start program for 20 years; retiring in 1994. After retirement, the two moved to Princeton. She was active in many organizations. She enjoyed every holiday and was known for her famous Christmas cookies. Her floral gardens were her pride and joy; daisies were among her favorite. Jean enjoyed spending her time traveling to Thunder Lake and was an avid reader. She spent time sewing; making doll clothes, cross stitching and knitting afghans.
Jean is survived by her loving family members; husband John, of 57 years; daughters, Debbie (Brett) Kruse of Houston, TX and Nancy (Mitchell) Bradley of Thorn Hill, TN; daughter-in-law, Laura Laing of Boston, MA; sister, Kathy (Ted) Lee of Minnetonka; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; children, John Laing (1994) and Liz Henderson (2010); and brother, Paul Hetland.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church Princeton with visitation one hour prior to the service.
